You may (or may not) know that I am in the midst of writing my latest book. And like a lot of other writers I get distracted, find other things to do – procrastinate – you get the picture. But every so often we do need to step away from the computer and get out into the community and circulate. Like this week when I went along to Bond University Women’s Network Speak Up Forum.  It was great afternoon, listening to the speakers and networking. I left feeling recharged and energised. ..

My network is my net worth. I’m not sure where this saying originated from however I do believe there is truth to it. The connections we make and the community we have around us is often where work, referrals and collaboration come from which in turn may create income. Networking whether in person or online is all social networking. I watched an old movie recently where at a party the matron was encouraging the younger girl to “circulate”. It could be called mingling or working the room but it shouldn’t be thought of as work. Socialising is meant to be fun and a way to make friends. ..

I am a member of Professional Speakers Australia and attended the annual convention just recently. What a great event and well done to the organisers for a stimulating event providing a mix of quality education, socialising and networking. I always enjoy the learning and connecting with colleagues and was reminded of how to make the most of these events whether an industry event or large scale conference. ..
